Before the year 2014, the word “Adult” was just a noun. Then millennials arrived.

The millennial generation then transformed the word “adult” into a verb… adulting.

“1. actions and behavior that are considered typical of adults, not children or young people”

—American Speech defines “adulting” as:

“1. to behave in an adult manner; engage in activities associated with adulthood”

“2. to make someone behave like an adult; turn someone into an adult”

–Lexico defines “adulting” as:

“The practice of behaving in a way characteristic of a responsible adult, especially the accomplishment of mundane but necessary tasks.”

–Urban Dictionary defines adulting as:

“1. to carry out one or more of the duties and responsibilities expected of fully developed individuals (paying off that credit card debt, settling beef without blasting social media, etc). Exclusively used by those who adult less than 50% of the time.”
